Posted: 03/27/2013

Hospital earns all ten stars and a gold rating for first time as part of
2013 Gold Star Standards of Excellence Program

Bangor, ME – Acadia Hospital recently received notification from the Maine Tobacco-Free Hospital Network that it has been awarded 10 stars for the 2013 Gold Star Standards of Excellence Award Program. This recognition signifies the hospital’s commitment to maintaining a healthy environment and protecting their employees, patients, and visitors from secondhand smoke by implementing tobacco-free policies on their campus.

According to Sarah Mayberry of the Maine Tobacco-Free Hospital Network, “Acadia’s tobacco-free policies demonstrate a commitment to providing a healthy environment for its patients, employees, visitors and the entire community, and we are pleased to recognize the hospital’s hard work in making their campus a tobacco-free environment.” Each year the network recognizes hospitals at the bronze, silver and gold levels based upon how many of the 10 Gold Star standards they meet.

Acadia’s leadership team and the hospital’s wellness committee spearhead the focus on maintaining a tobacco-free campus. “I couldn’t be more proud of the wellness committee and our entire staff for making a commitment to Acadia’s tobacco-free environment,” commented Acadia’s President and CEO Daniel B. Coffey. “Receiving this recognition on the heels of being named a Well Workplace by the Wellness Council of America sends a strong message that Acadia Hospital truly cares about the total health of not only our patients, but our staff and community at large.”

Acadia has participated in the Gold Standards of Excellence program in the past, but had not achieved all 10 stars until this year.
